Education

"Children are just a fraction of our society, but they are 100% of our future. This museum is for them!"

-- Rep. Sam Johnson, announcing federal support for the Old Red Museum.

The Old Red Museum holds education central to our mission to interpret Dallas County community history. The Crystal Charity Ball Childrens Education Center is a unique, hands-on history gallery that features interactive computer games and components that explore life as a Dallas County child. Visitors can try on reproduction period clothes, spin a time-wheel to see fun facts of Dallas schools over the years, post a photo of their favorite bicycle, discover their marble-playing skills, and play with toys from long ago.

All exhibit areas in the gallery were developed to be both fun and to teach a variety of the Texas Social Studies strands. In addition, the ten touch-screen monitors feature original games designed by Old Red and use questions developed by Dallas County teachers that address specific Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards for a variety of grade levels.
