Legal and Government Education

What is the difference between city and county governments? What historic trials were held in Old Red Museum? What can we learn about history alongside the Texas Constitution Bill of Rights? How did the Texas Declaration of Independence affect newly forming counties in the Republic?

As Old Red Museum resides in the former Dallas county courthouse, the Museum takes special interest in interpreting civics, legal, government and citizenship education. As part of this focus, the museum is developing a menu of mock trials from each time period that can be held in the restored Hatton W. Sumners courtroom. The museum also plans to host regional continuing education courses of the Texas State Law-Related Education Center. Look for Old Red education programs to supplement your civics and government curriculum in a variety of ways.

Law and Liberty Series

As a partner, the Museum offers a variety of historical documents, photos and research support for TaRGET grant participating teachers. The Museum also collaborates with Region 10 for the regional National History Day competition and other ventures.
